Reminders For The Beginning Of Lent And A Full Week of School

We are in school five days this week and Ash Wednesday is March 6. Please take a minute to peruse the latest events so you can be up-to-date on school news.

School Mass This Week: All-School Mass on Wednesday, March 6 at 8:30 am for Ash Wednesday. This will be a crowded Mass with a lot of parishioners and school families entering the parking lot between 8:15 am and 8:30 am. This would be a good day to drop off your children as early as 8 am to avoid the traffic. Drop off your children early and then join us for Mass. Just a reminder that there are no Dress Down Passes allowed on Mass days.

Silent Entrance On Wednesday, March 6:  Once again we will have Silent Entrance and Silent Exit each week during Lent. This year we would like to start Lent with a Silent Entrance on Wednesday. We ask your children to silence themselves as they enter school. If you bring your children into school we ask that you also enter in silence. The lights will be dimmed and teachers will hold battery-operated candles. We will end the week on Friday, March 8 with a Silent Exit and then next Monday, March 11 we will once again enter in silence. Thank you for working with your children to be silent as they enter school.

Lenten Spiritual Opportunities: There are many ways to pray, give alms and sacrifice this Lent. Visit this LINK to find how you can deepen your Lenten experience.

Standardized Testing Next Two Weeks: Students in 2nd through 7th Grades will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills exam over the next two weeks from March 4 through March 18. We ask that students come to school as much as possible so they won't have to take makeup tests. We also ask that students get plenty of sleep and that they eat a healthy breakfast to help them stay focused.

Auction Raffle Tickets -- Return Them This Week: Students recently were sent home with Auction Raffle Tickets. Did you find the tickets in your child's backpack? Fill out the tickets and send back to the School Office. Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. The winner receives a cash prize of $3,000 or a credit of $3,000 toward tuition for the 2019-2020 School Year. Even if you're unable to attend the auction you can still enter the raffle because the winner doesn't need to be present to win. In fact, sell tickets to your family and friends! If you need more tickets contact the School Office through email or call 262-367-2040. Return your tickets to the School Office by Friday, March 8 or bring them to the auction on Saturday, March 9.

Classroom Art Project Raffle Tickets:  Stop in the library this week to see the Classroom Art Projects created by our kids. Raffle tickets for the Classroom Art Projects were also sent home so check your child's folder or backpack. Drop the ticket into the jar that corresponds to the art project you hope to win. There are some beautiful pieces: ceramics, glass, string art and wood, just to name a handful. The winning tickets will be pulled at the auction. You don't need to be present to win so if you can't make the auction send in the tickets with your child and let him or her put them in the jars. Tickets must be dropped in the jars by Friday, March 8. Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50.
.
Auction Communication: Look for a daily email this week highlighting different aspects of the 2019 St. Charles Parish and School Auction and Dinner. We want to get you up to speed on everything before you arrive at the event on Saturday, March 9 at 5:30 pm at the Marriott in Waukesha.

St. Charles Track & Field: Mark your calendars for the first practice which is Thursday, March 21 at St. Charles. An incorrect date was listed in the Weekly Rundown last Friday so please know the correct date. Practices are on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at St. Charles or the Arrowhead track. Athletes of all abilities are welcome as long as they who have a desire to do their best. Students in 5th through 8th grade who attend St. Charles Parish School or child formation classes or Queen of Apostles or St. Teresa of Calcutta's religious education programs are welcome to join the team. The online registration form is coming soon! The team is also looking for any high school students or adults who would like to help coach. If you have questions email track@stcharleshartland.org.

Communion Clothing DriveSt. Charles Parish and School is collecting First Holy Communion clothing that will be donated to families at St. Anthony School in Milwaukee. Do you have communion dresses, veils, suits, pants, shirts and other accessories that you would be willing to pass along to other families?  The Communion Clothing Drive takes place Saturday, March 9 through Sunday, March 17. During the weekends drop off the clothing to the Parish Hall; during the week please drop off in the School Office or the Parish Office. Thank you for your generosity. The families at St. Anthony's School will truly benefit from your kindness. For questions please email Terri Blazek, Outreach Services Committee Chair, at jtblazek@wi.rr.com
